We’re looking for an experienced Principal, Executive Communications to help us expand our leadership team’s capacity to share the Guild story in a personalized, human way across internal and external channels to our priority audiences. This is a tremendous career opportunity for an enterprising individual to serve as a senior business partner and a founding member of the growing Executive and Internal Communications team. Through creative and sophisticated communications strategies, you will play a critical role to maximize the impact and activities of the Guild leadership team. You will be conversant and comfortable engaging with both strategy and execution. You will model and guide effective communication practices.

This role reports to our VP of Executive and Internal Communications and is remote.

At Guild, we’re helping unlock opportunity and career mobility for America’s workforce. We do this by connecting frontline workers at some of the country’s largest companies with debt-free online education and upskilling programs, one-to-one coaching and other supportive services through our network of trusted partners. Together, we’re paving proven pathways to a better future for America’s workers and the companies that employ them. Over the course of the last year, nearly 5 million working adult learners had access to Guild’s career opportunity platform through their employer. We’re just getting started.

Founded in 2015 by CEO Rachel Romer Carlson, we have a proven track record of success. Learners who work with Guild tend to experience rates of raises and role changes that are vastly higher than their counterparts not engaged with Guild through their employers, and they have avoided hundreds of millions of dollars of student debt. Virtually all our learners who are using tuition assistance through Guild - 97% - graduate debt-free from tuition, textbooks, or fees.

Guild is a fast-paced, dynamic, social impact organization of inspired individuals motivated to tackle some of the most pressing challenges of our time at scale. We are committed to advancing our mission of unlocking opportunity through education, skilling and career pathways for America’s workforce.

As the Principal, Executive Communications, you will:

  • Develop content including remarks, social media posts, emails, FAQs, presentations and bylined articles that advance Guild’s business goals through the voice of our leaders.
  • Shape and communicate key messages that effectively convey the company’s purpose and values, business strategy, and the value of its people.
  • Provide direct, kind and actionable feedback to leaders of all capabilities and experience levels to help them become better communicators.

  • Work intuitively across stakeholders to ensure leaders are well-briefed and show up in ways that are relevant, timely and responsive to internal and external business developments.
  • Influence executives and provide advice that reflects an understanding of their business and leadership style.
  • Act in a consultative capacity to advise the executive leadership team and other stakeholders on corporate communication matters to ensure strategic alignment, enhance company’s reputation and visibility, and manage risks to the business.
  • Make proactive, persuasive recommendations to senior leaders and cross functional partners to support the business.

  • Support change management initiatives through thoughtful communications to generate excitement and optimism for the future and help team members navigate organizational change.
  • Measure the effectiveness of communication events and provide regular updates to leadership while seeking opportunities for improvement.
  • Manage through change, complexity and ambiguity with thoughtfulness and vision that is grounded in experience

You are a strong fit for this role if:

YOU ARE A VERSATILE, FAST, CONVERSATIONAL WRITER: Whether you got your start as a journalist, screenwriter, in politics or some other field, you are at ease with the blank page. You can ghostwrite for different leader voices with precision. You eliminate jargon and distill complex information into memorable messages. Your flawless writing for different voices and audiences is always accessible, relevant and consistent with Guild’s brand.

YOU BRING A STRONG POINT OF VIEW INFORMED BY RELEVANT EXPERIENCE: You have 7-10+ years of experience in executive communications or equivalent, including close partnership with executive leadership team members and cross-functional partners. You can make relevant, persuasive recommendations that align and influence key stakeholders, including senior executives, cross functional partners, employees and members to support the business.

YOU RAISE THE BAR WITH LEADERSHIP QUALITIES THAT INSPIRE OTHERS: You’re a high EQ listener who forms strong relationships across levels and functions. You have strong executive presence and confidence, willing to take on big challenges, advocate a position, build a business case, and influence others.

YOU BALANCE DETAILS WITH BIG PICTURE: You take ownership and accountability so projects arrive on time and to plan. You are highly proactive and responsive, and understand when you need to be flexible and available outside of specified business hours. You have demonstrated ability to collaborate cross-functionally, set priorities, and drive multiple projects simultaneously from start to finish. You understand business trends, stay current on corporate strategy, and advise on communication opportunities.

YOU BRING A TRACK RECORD FOR POSITIVE CHANGE AND GENERATING RESULTS. You have high standards for your work product and superior oral communication and presentation skills across multiple media formats.
